Weekly Dance Classes
Autumn plans are coming together, keep an eye on our Facebook page for news on that, and weekly opportunities, or sign up to the database to stay informed.
We have started a creative dance class in Wadebridge for 3-7 year olds (Wild Wigglers) and 8-11 year olds (Brilliant Dance). We started it primarily because we wanted somewhere for our own 5-year old twins to discover dance for themselves beyond our own kitchen with an ipod. It meets at the Betjeman Centre in Wadebridge every Thursday after school in term time and is led by Sarah Waller.
Brilliant Dance expresses much of what we believe about dance for children. It's about the joy of dancing and making dances. We don't have special uniforms, the children dress in whatever they enjoy and frequently its more like a dressing up party. It's not about steps, but is about dance and movement skills, ideas, the joy of making up dances and uses a range of styles, but always with a child-centred creative approach.
Its called Brilliant Dance because that's what it is. Mums and Dads sit around the edges on comfy sofas if they want to, and children discover the fun to be had with dancing to great music. They perform if they want to.
It's a model we will gradually develop, starting new classes around Cornwall where we think there is a demand with teachers who understand the ethos and approach. And it has to be, of course, brilliant.
